Sound of FIND ME

Our trailer has much more dialogue that a conventional teaser trailer because we wanted to give it a realistic documentary feel. The clip starts with a conversation in the car. Asynchronous dialogue is used during the hand held shots in the woods when the camera operter is filming and chatting to his friends. This ads realism and a sense of everyday to the scene and establishes the equilibrium which is then shattered by the sound of screaming.The sound of the typewriter was added to connote a police report. This would not normally be used in a horror trailer, even in Blairwitch there was no sound when the text came up on screen so this is a point at which we broke with convention in order to create a hybrid horror/documentary. Most of the sounds are ambient like the rustling of leafs and heavy breathing which was chosen to partner a close up shot to increase the suspense due to the camera being on a fixed point. You can almost feel that something will happen, this is when sound effects come into to the trailer with the thud and bad tv sounds. These are followed by a loud boom from the soundtrack followed by a monotonous drone ramping up the tension and the suspicions of the viewer. This is followed by the ambient high pitched squeal of the boiler room and heavy breathing ended with a echoed 'find me' and a blast from the sound track to cause fright within the audience. this is then surpassed by a loud distorted boon with the title screen. the last shot is of Kerry screaming and a beeping life support machine creating an enigma, 'what has happened?' which is exactly what a teaser trailer should do, it should whet the viewer's appetite enough that they want to watch the film.

Uses of teaser trailers

Teaser trailers are normally released about 3 months before the film is released. They do to provoke interest in the film by using very early shots of the film to portray a semi-structured plot line for the viewer to get the gist of the film and discuss it with others. Also it may cause people to track the film's progress. Trailers are around 30-60 seconds long and this enables them to promote the film early on. Teaser trailers are shorter than normal trailers this is partly due to the film not being finished a the time of the release but mainly in order to whet the audience's appetite to want to know more about the film.

evaluation question 1

This heading is very similar to the BW heading because they both set the date, the characters and setting however BW gives more info with the sentence 'While shooting a documentary' this give you a idea why they have a camera whilst find me use of the camera is explained in the main film, not the trailer. the text is both white on a black background this resembles the struggle of good vs evil meaning that there is less white on the screen than black but it purity draws you to it instead of the abyssal black backing. the text is large in find me to give the viewer a chance to read it and to draw more attention to it both texts are sans serif suggesting it is more flowing and contacting the view not just giving them information.

This shot was chosen because Blair witch as a brand is recognisable between the wicker stick man and the black and white night vision shot of the girl crying with terror our brand would be identified like the stick man by the 5 with a cross thought it, this is a very similar shot due to it being central and highlighted for example the highlight of the BW is the lighting causing a silhouette of the figure drawing your attention to it whilst our shot was high lighted by the colour a luminous pink this attracts the viewers attention to the fact of the forest is abnormal in the fact of the trees have markings on them.

the composition of the shot is similar but is on the opposite sides the lighting is different due to driving into the light and time of day in the Blair witch shot the lighting continues to suggest that it is realistic due to what seems to be amateur footage due to poor lighting, whilst both shots are establishing shots because they are setting the film in the forest and the hills the BW is a bit more ominous due to the darker lighting, but the lighting in find me serves another purpose for example it keeps the innocents of the of the film.

Both of the end titles for the films find me and strangers are both of a smudged out of focus face with is located on on side of the shot this contradicts the rule of thirds due to the image being on the either the right or the left. the text is located on the opposite side to the image to draw you eyes away to the tittle of the film and the image is there for context and a direct link to the film.

Both are establishing shots but 'find me' has a green filter and this make it look like it was shot in night vision also it was on a tilt tracking down whilst the strangers shot was a stable still long shot most likely shot on a tripod.

These shots are both medium shots with the camera in a low parallel position, both of the actors have there hands out reaching for the camera this denotes there are reaching for the help of the audience, also the quarantine shot is much darker than find me to give a larger sense of mystery whilst the find me shot if better for a trailer because it give a little information on the setting but not enough to give the plot away.

The shot for find me is a low angle close up, whilst BW is a close up, also the shot composition is also different because find me is a full head and also there is day light above the head whilst in BW the shot cuts off the top of the head but both shots leave a gap on the left hand side whilst Tomos has a much larger gap. Both shots have a lighting effect for example the find me shot is in night vision which is quite prominent in our trailer and BW has a spot light on the right hand side of the face.

The quotations were added due to the inspiration from the Blair witch trailer, however we used a more traditional approach with the 5 stars and the reliable newspaper 'The Times' the Blair witch used intertextuality by include the 'Exorcist' which was considered one the scariest horrors ever. Both texts are serif.

Theses shots are both long shots however the one on the right (Blair witch) is much more off centred with the path down to the bottom right, also it gives it a tunnel effect because your eyes are drawn to the bottom of the path because of the more solid woodland.the black and white is due to the film is much older and that is what the night vision was on old handheld colours not green like on the newer also it blends in well with the rest of the film because it is quite a neutral coloured film.
